reasons to visit north wales
on your christmas break

Christmas; the most wonderful time of the year to visit North Wales. With the crisp mountain air and various fairs and markets, North Wales is the perfect place to celebrate the festivities with your family. In the heart of the Snowdonian countryside you will find Plas Colwyn, the ideal base with a picture-perfect backdrop for all your Christmas celebrations. Whether you’re looking for a relaxing, low key weekend away with close friends or family, or a big get together with up to 20 people, Plas Colwyn is a great location to get started with all the festivities.

Throughout December there are a variety of things to get up to around North Wales. Just a 20 minute drive away from Plas Colwyn is the incredible Italianate Village Portmeirion, and between the 6th-8th December they will be holding their annual food and craft fair featuring more than 120 artisan stalls. There will also be an exciting full programme of entertainment including seasonal cooking demonstrations and an incredible Santa’s Grotto.

There are a variety of national trust parks surrounding Beddgelert or a short drive away, great for a frosty winter stroll with the family. Visit Aberglaslyn or Craflwyn national trust park all within the region surrounding Beddgelert, or go further afield and visit the incredible Bodnant Garden in Conway and join the elves workshop and enjoy the Christmas crafts, or on selected weekends you could also take part in Christmas cookie decorating! Despite being further from Plas Colwyn, a trip to Powis Castle for the incredible illuminated gardens is always worthwhile. Between the 30th November to the 16th December you can stroll around the spectacularly lit formal garden, terraces and courtyard, there’s no better way to brighten up a dark night and get into the Christmas spirit. Along with the spectacular illuminations, you can bring the little ones along to meet father Christmas in his grotto on Saturdays and Sundays from the 1st-23rd December. Instead, you can join father Christmas for breakfast in the courtyard restaurant before listening to his festive stories in the cosy bookshop.

There is no doubt that you will find enough to get up to in your Christmas break in the tranquil Snowdonian countryside. There is no better way to spend the festive season than out in the fresh air with your loved ones, making it one of the best times of the year to visit. Walk along the snow-capped mountains and take in the breath-taking views of the idyllic Christmas setting, just remember to pack your coats and woolly hats!
